BIG Lie #1
Fat Makes You Fat
Dietary Fat has been demonized for years by doctors, writers, various industries and even the government. Here’s one of the big reasons why.

In the 50s, Ancel Keys proposed a hypothesis exclaiming fat made you fat, gave you higher cholesterol and lead to increased heart disease risk by clogging your arteries.

This was loosely and erroneously based on a study conducted by Keys and was used to show the correlation between eating fat and obesity. 

However, there were a lot of countries left out. The findings were skewed and favored the results he desired to achieve, not an unbiased result.

Eating Cholesterol = High Cholesterol
Studies have shown no significant effect on blood cholesterol from dietary cholesterol.
 
It was believed that eating cholesterol raises bad cholesterol and now we know the body produces a particular amount in each person.

TRUTH #2
When you eat foods such as egg yolks, containing dietary cholesterol, your blood cholesterol doesn’t remain high and your body just produces less to compensate for the difference.
 
The rule of thumb says that yes you get a bump in cholesterol - both LDL and HDL. However, the ratios stay the same…so to say there is a significant increase in heart disease by eating dietary cholesterol - is false.
BIG Lie #3
Artificial Sweeteners Give you Cancer
This was really big in the 80s. I remember growing up and everyone talking about saccharin and how it caused cancer in mice and therefore it would cause cancer in people too.
 
There was a big push not to eat the “pink stuff” or definitely don’t eat the “blue package”.


TRUTH #3
This was debunked and science now says there is no definitive proof that artificial sweeteners cause cancer.
 
Generally speaking, the rats used in those old studies were prone to bladder cancer and would have gotten cancer if given an abundance of just about anything.
 
Even the World Cancer Research Fund reports that it is no longer a threat as links between cancer and artificial sweeteners have been discredited.
BIG Lie #4
A Calorie is a Calorie
Some say a calorie is a calorie. All you have to do is reduce your calories, burning more than you take in and you can lose weight. 

This is simply not true. 

Although at first, you will lose weight just by cutting down how much you are eating, the body is smart and will eventually catch on and start regulating metabolism in order to save energy for later.
 
And what form is it stored in?? FAT… On your hips… On your waist… In your thighs...

TRUTH #4
The way the body breaks down carbohydrates, protein and fat, the three main sources of calories in our diet, and the effect they have on our waistline are completely different.

A calorie of grass fed beef is completely different than a calorie of hard candy.

Diabetes is a Death Sentence
Your government, even your doctors want you to believe diabetes is a death sentence.

This led to my confusion…
 
...why was I following these diets and wasn’t losing weight. In fact, at some point, I was actually gaining weight while dieting.

With everything I knew about food, I felt I could figure out something…

Remember when Superman could not save his earth dad with all those powers… well I felt the same way… with all I knew about food and dieting, what could I do?
 
To make matters worse, my mom found out, because of her diet, she had several TIA Strokes we didn’t even know about…
 
These are strokes that are sometimes unknowingly happening. You only see the signs of them having happened after blood work is completed for some other reason…
 
That’s it!!!
 
With all this happening, it was only natural for me to start thinking about my own mortality…
 
Scared to death that this would happen to me I finally went to the doctor. She was very blunt with me and said I was headed down the same road.

I was fearful of falling apart, as my family WAS - right in front of my eyes...

And I didnt know how to help them.

I then realized I was in trouble too.
Then began MY journey.  

I had diabetes, type-2.

Age was the only thing, I think, that was on my side.

Not just for Melissa, not just for my parents, but for myself… I was a fat, unhappy, unhealthy 30-something year old guy with a family history of Heart Disease and Diabetes…

I have faced many challenges in my life, but this served as one, that if conquered, would change not only my life, but my wife’s, my mom and dad’s - maybe countless others’.
 
Then, I discovered something I thought would work…

I found the hidden, little known secret, with a weird name called the keto diet.
